Small Business HR Strategies Program
This six-week program pairs your company with an experienced HR consultant to help build the HR foundation your business needs as you grow.
During the program you’ll:
- Strengthen hiring and onboarding practices
- Build core HR policies and documentation
- Improve employee management processes
- Reduce HR compliance risk
During the program, you’ll work directly with an HR expert to develop key HR systems that support your growing business, including:
- Hiring documentation and offer letters
- Job descriptions and recruiting practices
- Employee onboarding and documentation systems
- Personnel file setup and recordkeeping
- Foundational employee policies and handbook structure
Each company receives 12 hours of personalized HR consulting over six weeks to help address real HR challenges and strengthen internal systems.
Program value: $3,000 per company

Fully Funded HR Strategy Program for ABC Members
Through AIM Business Connect’s Economic Inclusion initiative, eligible ABC members can participate in this program at no cost.
Each company receives 12 hours of personalized HR consulting support over six weeks.
Total program value: $3,000
What We’ll Build Together During the Program
Week 1 – Pre-Employment Activities
- Identify requirements of fair employment laws
- Develop the organization’s EEO policy
- Evaluate job applicants based on compliant job-related criteria
- Conduct all phases of the hiring process to avoid discrimination
Week 2 – Hiring Employees
- Draft a comprehensive offer letter
- Set up and maintain compliant employee files
- Understand the step-by-step process of completing Form I-9
- Design and implement a structured onboarding process
Week 3 – Compensation and Benefits
- Identify and understand the key legal requirements for compensation practices in Massachusetts
- Discover employee benefits best practices
- Properly manage and issue final paychecks
- Determine overtime eligibility in accordance with FLSA standards
Week 4 – Performance Management
- Identify best practices and pitfalls in writing performance evaluations
- How to create and utilize a performance evaluation form
- Write clear and achievable performance objectives
- Learn strategies for conducting comprehensive reviews
Week 5 – Documentation and Termination
- Manage the critical aspects of the termination process
- Effectively manage and maintain employee files
- Understand the legal requirements for administering COBRA, if applicable
- Prepare company guidelines for providing references
Week 6 – Establishing your HR Plan
- Understand the recommended handbook policies based on employer size
- Prepare to communicate policies to employees
- Assess HR areas that are at risk and require immediate attention
- Develop an action plan with timelines and resources
By the end of the program, you’ll have the knowledge, tools, and action plan needed to confidently manage HR in your organization.
